Office design Angola

An office interior is judged twice: by the people who work in it every day, and by the clients who visit it once. Those two audiences want different things, and a design that only serves one of them fails. We design offices in Angola where the space works as a place of work first and reads as a statement of the company second.

Starting with how the company actually works

Before any layout is drawn we need to know how the business operates. How many people are on site on a normal day rather than on paper. How much of the work is focused and solitary, how much is collaborative, and how often the two interrupt each other. How often clients come in, and how far into the office they get. Whether meetings are mostly internal or external, scheduled or spontaneous.

These answers decide the proportion of open workspace to enclosed rooms, the number and size of meeting spaces, and where reception sits relative to everything else. An office planned without them tends to end up with too many large meeting rooms that sit empty and nowhere quiet for a phone call.

Layout, acoustics and light

Open plan offices fail most often on acoustics rather than on space. Sound has to be handled through the ceiling, soft finishes, screening and the distance between working groups, and it has to be designed in rather than corrected afterwards with panels bought once the complaints start. We plan enclosed focus space and meeting rooms as part of the same exercise, so people have somewhere to go when they need to concentrate or take a call.

Daylight is distributed by planning, not by wishing. Perimeter glazing is worth more to the people who spend the day at a desk than to the meeting rooms that are used a few hours a week, so we generally keep enclosed rooms inboard and workstations near the facade. Artificial lighting is layered and specified for screen work, with attention to glare and to colour temperature consistency across the floor.

Reception and client-facing space

Reception is where the company makes its first impression, and it carries a disproportionate share of the design budget for that reason. It also has to work operationally: somewhere to wait that is comfortable, a clear route to meeting rooms that does not cross the working floor, and a reception desk that functions for the person sitting at it.

Where a company hosts clients regularly, we plan the client-facing zone so visitors can be received, met and shown out without walking through the working areas. That separation protects both the impression and the concentration of the people working.

Materials, services and local conditions

Material selection for an office is a durability decision as much as an aesthetic one. Circulation routes, door edges, reception counters and meeting room tables take daily wear, and finishes have to be chosen accordingly. Climate matters too: humidity and temperature affect timber, veneers and adhesives, and air conditioning load has to be designed around the real occupancy and equipment rather than a nominal figure.

Power and data planning is settled at layout stage. Desk positions, floor boxes, meeting room connectivity and server requirements are cheap to design and expensive to retrofit. We produce the technical drawings a contractor can build from, so the coordination is done on paper.
